To Our Show Attendees:
As you walk through any Show by SACA artisans, you’re seeing myriads of shelves bearing beautiful clay art. But you are also seeing the modern face of an ancient art form, following a history of thousands of years of clay creations.
We see the appeal of the finished piece and the skill of the artist, but we may not grasp the details of creating it. Whether ancient or modern, clay artisans have made dozens, even hundreds, of choices to create the outcome their imagination demands of their art. Among them are:
- the clay: porcelain, stoneware, red, buff, brown
- construction: wheel, hand built, slip cast
- firing temperature: high fire, mid-fire, low fire
- firing kiln: gas, electric, wood, salt, raku
- surface decorations: carving, glaze, stain, texturizing
- glazes: transparent, underglaze, metallic overglaze, atmospheric
- the list goes on and on.
The imagination, skill, and love of the artist creates something unique, every single time. A handmade bowl or figure feels authentic in your hands, and bears the marks of its maker. When you use it, you connect to its history with its ancient counterparts.
SACA’s many fine clay artists hold shows several times a year in various venues throughout the area. Most are juried, but there are non juried shows as well. Please check this website to stay aware of SACA’s upcoming shows. Or add your name to our list to receive our Show notices.
